  Arrow's Response and Products:
Maximal Barrier Precautions Tray

Making sure healthcare providers have proven, dependable infection-prevention technologies at their fingertips is at the heart of Arrow International’s mission. This page spotlights the latest Arrow offerings, and includes links to Arrow’s full line of infection-prevention products and central venous catheters in the near future.

The Maximal Barrier Precautions Trays listed below reduce the risk of catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSI) and healthcare worker injury by preventing infection and minimizing the risk of sharps injury.

They will help you deliver life-saving care and comply with the CDC Guidelines for Prevention of Intravascular Catheter-Related Infections, and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) guidelines, and meet the requirements of the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act, enforced by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Protect Your Patient

Administering life-saving care means protecting your patient from further risk. To that end, the Maximal Barrier Precautions Tray comes complete with a comprehensive array of tools to prevent central line infections, including:

  • Insertion checklist
Handy 21-step reference to help you comply with all relevant CDC and IHI guidelines

  • ChloraPrep® applicator
Makes it easy to follow the CDC 1A recommendation on preparing the insertion site with chlorhexidine

  • Full body drape
Drape is absorbent but impervious to fluids. Carefully packaged for unfolding and fitting using sterile technique. Per IHI guidelines, measures 68 inches by 110 inches to cover the patient head to toe. Clear poly window 18 inches square has adhesive around the fenestration to anchor the drape.

  • ARROWg+ard® antimicrobial catheter technology
Patented combination of silver sulfadiazine and chlorhexidine impregnated into the catheter surface. Recommended by the CDC as a 1B precaution for the prevention of infection, ARROWg+ard's ability to reduce infection, save lives and reduce costs has been verified by more than 30 studies.(1,2) Hospitals can order the Maximal Barrier Precautions Tray with next-generation ARROWg+ard Blue PLUS® catheters. These feature silver sulfadiazine and chlorhexidine along the entire intraluminal path, plus increased levels of chlorhexidine on the catheter's external surface for better protection.

Protect Yourself

The protective gear and upgraded sharps safety devices in the Maximal Barrier Precautions Tray not only protect your staff—they enable your hospital to classify its CVC insertion kits as "evaluated" and "implemented" per the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act and enforced by OSHA. Each kit's user-safety equipment includes:

  • CLC2000® Positive Pressure Connector
Reduces risk of thrombotic occlusion by preventing reflux of blood when removing or changing devices at the injection port.

  • Mask with eye shield, surgical gown and cap
Impervious to contaminated liquids; comes folded for donning using sterile technique.

  • Safety scalpel
Retractable blade for easy-to-control sharps protection.

  • Needleless Injection Valves and BD SafetyGlide™ injection needles
No tradeoffs between efficacy and safety.

  • Suture set
Curved suture needle and quality stainless steel needle holder.

  • SharpsAway II™ Locking Disposal Cup
Easily and safely move used needles to disposal container.

  • ChloraPrep® applicator
Disinfect and prepare your insertion area with clinical efficiency
